The Deadside is coming. The veil between the living world and the Deadside is fading. The Shadowman is trying some new tricks and when those don’t work, he bust out some old, but it isn’t enough. An ally joins the fight, but so does the Deadside which has now taken form. Can the Shadowman prevent the Deadside from taking over the world?!
It’s been about a year since I last reviewed a Shadowman book. I was excited to dive into this one as I have very much enjoyed all the entries, I had the pleasure of reading. Cullen Bunn continues to weave an intriguing tale that keeps me on the edge of my seat. The pacing of the story in this issue is spot on. No points are belabored and every detail we learn is interesting and does a great job of moving the story along. The character progression is also a strong point of the series and is prevalent in this issue. It’s great to see a character try a different approach to an old problem.
This issue has a different artist than the other issues I’ve have read. The artwork is very solid but does seem to have lost a little detail when compared to the earlier issues. Pedro Andreo does a great job on his actions scenes and the color filters add a lot to the spooky atmosphere of the story setting. This comic looks like a back lit Synder movie, but it works a lot better than it did with the Justice League. All the images are super clear and easy to understand. I just don’t like the random color splotches. Sometimes the random splotches work and sometimes they don’t make sense. The color is overall very good not withstanding what I just said.
The lettering by Clayton Cowles continues to be strong. The placement of the dialog and descriptions placed in a way that never interferes with artwork. I also like the use of different colored word bubbles and italics that helps us know who is saying what. Really solid stuff from Mr. Cowles.
Shadowman #6 get a very solid 8 capes out of 10. It has a very interesting story, and the artwork does a great job of immersing you into the world of The Shadowman.
